@ Firoozwell you have a very grim view of the futurethere is no cultural shortcoming. democracy and freedom are not cultural values, but rather political paradigms that a nation can follow.please do not generalize whether we can have these values by looking at the posts in this forum. that in itself would be a fallacy.for past 50 years we have lived under suppression, and the only solution is a democratic style of governance where religion is not passed on as a political ideology.future is brightkings, mullahs, thugs etc... come and gothat which survives is our dear Iran.

I ensure all of you who lecture on this forums, would not be any better than 2 kings or anyone is the Current system once you hold the power. I can see at the current pace you are ready to call everyone , names and cut their throat only if they disagree with you. Guess what would happen if you had power to do so.The point is " Cultural shortcoming". Iranian are the same anywhere and under any government. All comment but noone has a solution. I wonder how many of those women handing out litterture were executed later on by the islamo facist regime? Video's like this are good because occasionaly you loose perspective that Iran is a third world country with all the problem associated with one. And when you think what you are observing is bad you relaize this is after fifty years of hard work by two kings who actually cared and loved their country. just imagine if Islamist came to power in 1909 instead of 1979, Iran would not even exist today!

Iranians do not deserve a free society... what has happened to iranians after the revolution is what should have happened... The great Shah had the vision... stupid people compare 30/40 years ago with current standards... it is like to say that we never had internet or mobile phone during Shah's regime... it's because it was not invented... but we had respect around the word, which we don't have it in any way nowadays... Rome was not built in a day so was Iran during Shah... it would take some time to become a perfect country... but now we are going backward with higher speed... iranians visiting arab countries now they feel they have travelled to another planet... they take pictures of shopping malls and cars... simple things looks strange to them... they cannot speak a word of english... shameful

How can you know what freedom and constructive criticism if you believe that newspapers in Iran are free to criticize the government as they wish. I always read Iranian newspapers. Kargozaran, Etemade Mellin, Mardom Salari etc...Do any of these criticize the unconstitutional role of the supreme leader? Is the imposed 1980s amending formula even legal within the framework of the sham republic??Do any of these papers criticize the fact that Rafsanjani is the governing head of both expediency and assembly of experts? the fight over subsidies is no criticism. we have a structural problem in Iran. the checks and balances are poorly distributed (even wrongfully practiced from the original version) and so we have ended up with an authoritarian regime. but thats matter of another debate.I highly doubt that you have ever lived in a society.standing at a Dakeh and reading a state approved newspaper isnt freedom to criticize. true freedom is when people arent put into jail for wanting equal gender rights and etc....You are either very arrogantor just plain confused. Id be glad to further debate this issue with you, either on chat or email. there is extensive material in (farsi) on iranian constitution. even its original drafters no longer support its validity (this is to claim that it was a valid document to begin with).good luck to youfreedom isnt a tag as you viewed it to be, but rather a political affair.

The Islamic Republic is not a dictatorship. It is not definitely not perfect, and there are certainly excesses and shortcomings, but it is much better than the shah, when Iran was a base for US imperialism in the world. Most people no longer remember the era of the shah, and because of their unstatistfaction with the current economic situation, they idealize it and forget all of its cruelties. If you actually do research, and look up the statistics, the standard of living in Iran has greatly improved for ALL Iranians (not just rich elitists living in palaces in North Tehran, but for dahatis and sharestanis, the majority of Iran's population) as compared to life under the previous regime. That having been said, the pictures by Arafat "dar kenar felestin" are hilarious

well i agree that shah was a cruel dictatorbut so is Islamic Republicit is neither Islamic or a republic.MEK is also a personality cult, so no use in advocating them. specially after what happened in the war with iraq.but the point here is, just because someone does not agree to the affairs of the puny dictatorship u live in,it doesn't mean that they are wrong. You can go around and scream your lungs out. but reality remains.
